And lest I forget, yesterday was New Comic Book Day!  We’re completely devoid of Blackest Night or Seige tie-ins, but the Incredible Hulk does have a one-shot where he very kindly asks Thor if he would stop hitting him with that stick.  Batman and Robin start the quest to find out what happened to Bruce Wayne.  And in Prelude to Deadpool Corps #2, a prepubescent version of Deadpool gives Scott Summers the most well deserved wedgie in the entire history of comic books.  As always, you can see the full list here or just come on down to Canton Games and check them out for yourself.

Next weekend on Saturday the 13th we’ll be playing Warhammer Invasion. I’ve spent all day looking through the rules of this game and it looks plenty good. I know we’ve got a lot of fans of the game out there, so come on by on Saturday and pit your deckbuilding skills against me and anyone else who shows up. It’s a totally free game day.  I’d be glad to teach the game to any newcomers, of course. Last, but certainly not least, I’m going to start up an epic game of Diplomacy via email. I need exactly seven players to sign up, no cost to enter, and I’ll act as judge. Diplomacy is a game of charisma – making alliances with other players, attacking your enemies and protecting your buddies – until the time is right for you to stab them mercilessly in the back. I describe the game as epic – played via email it should take about four months to complete. Don’t let that scare you – all you have to do is check your email once a day and submit your moves to me twice a week. Play is limited to the first seven people who respond, so post a comment fast and email me to save your place.

If you haven’t read this series, I strongly recommend it for just about anyone who would enjoy an epic story of political intrigue.  You have to be prepared for the unexpected however, beloved characters die when you least expect it and the good guys rarely win in the realistic gritty world of these novels.

With four books published so far with a fifth expected this year (of seven), this series will keep your attention for a while.

Winter is Coming

First up is the new Fall of the Hulks – Savage She Hulks. If she’s female and hulked out, she’ll be punching somebody in this issue. Next we have the Prelude to Deadpool Corps. The lovely Lady Deadpool beats up on a one-armed Colonel America. The Mutant Hope gets her own one-shot issue. And finally, Marvel’s appropriately named Girl Comic. I have to be honest – I haven’t read this one. I think opening it might break some sort of taboo or something.

Now the fun part. Everybody remembers our great sale on graphic novels – up to 30% off on everything DC or Marvel. We had a brainstorming session as to how we could make that sale even better, and the word came down – double it.

Select graphic novels (you’ll find them on the display table) are all the way down to 60% off the cover price. How can we offer such delirious discounts? Maybe we got a huge stack of them on the cheap. Maybe Websters redefined “Profit” to mean “Sell things below cost.” Maybe we just abuse our employees (me) and pass the savings on to you. Either way, come take advantage of this crazy-go-nuts deal!

And yet, there’s more. Magic players! Good news for all of you. We now have singles from the Alara block! We’ve got about 90% of the block in stock now. We’ve got oodles of rares from older sets, and over 7000 random cards I haven’t even had time to sort through yet. We are officially overstocked. So here’s what I’m doing.
For the rest of the month, all rares in the extended binder are $1 each. I assure you there’s some solid gold in here. I’ve also put together boxes of about 400 – 500 random cards of the same color for $20. I don’t count them out exactly, but they’ll be weighted in your favor, promise. These are from a mix of sets, lots of commons and uncommons in each box. If you’re a casual player and want a lot of new cards to pump up your deck, this is what you need. So come by, check it out. Lots of good will come of it.

My retirement plan secured, it’s time to get to this week’s comics.  Norman Osborn was not paying attention at the beginning of the month when I warned him not to tick off the Sentry.  The Blackest Night saga brings a few new additions, wrapping up the Flash miniseries and showing us the fate of Guy Gardner.  And at long, long last, Deadpool #19 hits shelves, teaming him up with Spider-Man against the Mercenary Monkey himself – HitMonkey.

Also.  Doomwar #1.  This is what I love to see in a comic book.  Doctor Doom gets mad about something and just beats the tar out of everybody.  Unless your name rhymes with Eed Ichards, you pretty much want to stay out of Doom’s way.  Doom once had a man shot for not applauding long enough.  That’s the kind of person I want running this country – someone who’s susceptible to a fair amount of butt kissing.  Doom for President 2012!

And one final announcement – we’ve had trucks out here all morning clearing away dump trucks full of snow.  Parking is no longer a problem.  I can see three open spaces without getting up out of my chair, and I’m sure there’s a dozen more on Essex St.  So come on by!

And yet again, the Worldwake Sealed Deck tournament has been rescheduled to this Sunday.  Let’s hope that it doesn’t get snowed out again, huh?  I want to play!

The heavy snow is affecting many services right now.  UPS has discontinued service in the area, so new comics will be delayed (Probably until tomorrow) and special orders will likely come in late.
